Inspiration
I create in my studio almost every day, working mostly in encaustic, but veering off occasionally to work with acrylics, oils, pen and ink, fiber and other materials. I am particularly fascinated by the materials with which I work, experimenting and arranging them into a reflection of my feelings about the world around me. Techniques
Some years ago I came upon a small painting in which the material “encaustic” was listed. I fell in love with the look of encaustic, which I later learned was simply wax, and submerged myself over the next two decades learning all I could about it. I like to call myself an artist working in encaustic so that I can leave myself room to be working in other mediums, which I do from time to time. But I have a love affair with the wax that is ongoing and consuming. I love finding new ways to combine the wax into other mediums while I explore subjects in the world around me.
Career Highlights
I’ve had the honor of showcasing my work in numerous venues and publications worldwide as detailed in my resume. In 2017, the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art featured a 17-year retrospective of my work titled The Medium is the Muse, which can be seen in a video here. Recently I was thrilled to be included in the book Italianità: Contemporary Art Inspired by the Italian Immigrant Experience, which highlights the captivating art and narratives of the featured artists.
